Nestled in the foothills of the Flinders Ranges, just south of Booleroo Centre, is a family-business with values and a passion for agriculture that mirrors those of Ramsey Bros.
Kelly Engineering has been cost effectively assisting in the economic, agronomic and environmental sustainability of farms all over the world with their innovative machinery, and supplying to Ramsey Bros, for many years. Their reliable machinery and products have been steadily popular with Ramsey Bros customers over the years, but it’s not just their passion for agriculture that’s kept this relationship strong. Second-generation owner Shane Kelly speaks highly of the similarities between the two multi-generational family businesses.
“Mum and Dad set up Kelly Engineering and ran it for the first 15 years; then Jo and I have been at the helm for the last 15 years. We’ve got four kids and three of them are now working in the business, and one working part-time whilst studying, so it’s very much built on our family’s values,” Shane begins.
“Although we’re not located far from many of the customers who come to us through Ramsey Bros, we wanted to work with this local dealer and once we started, it was clear it would be a strong long-term partnership. We’ve been supplying our machinery to Ramsey Bros dealerships for well over 20 years now and spent a lot of time with the Ramsey family and their staff over that time — through both industry events, like field days, and socially through several mutual connections.
“The thing that strikes me, is that Ramsey Bros is well-known in rural machinery and highly respected, but they have strong values behind the business and just as people, in general. They understand and have empathy with the regional communities and it goes well beyond just providing products and services to them. They genuinely want to see others prosper and we do the same over here in Booleroo. It’s one of those things about rural communities that sets them apart.
“I’ll always remember a couple of years ago when the SA Variety Bash came through Booleroo for a lunch stop. As Gold Sponsors of the charity event, Brenton and Linc Ramsey presented a local family with the keys to a new Toyota van, which was fitted with a hydraulic lifting platform. This was life-changing for the family, whose daughter is in a wheelchair, and just an incredible show of support for our local community. It’s that genuine care for others which really stands out and is a strong reason why Kelly Engineering will continue to work with Ramsey Bros for many years to come,” Shane says.
