Huge congratulations to Goosey Walter, who’s taken out the major prize in our 75-year celebrations. Goosey and his family have farmed just out of Cummins for decades, running a mixed cropping operation and working with Ramsey Bros for more than 20 years.
Now Goosey and Karen are packing for the trip of a lifetime after winning a $25,000 travel voucher when they purchased a new Case IH tractor in July. Fair to say, the surprise caught them both completely off guard.
“I got a message saying there was a recall from Case IH, and I thought, ‘Ohh s**t, it’s going to be something major,’” Goosey says.
“I walked into the Cummins branch to sort it out and was chatting to Shirls when I realised there were about five people standing there looking at us,” Goosey says. “Cody was holding the big novelty cheque you get when you win the lottery. I thought, ‘What the hell’s going on here?’ It completely blew me away!”
Still processing the surprise, Goosey decided to have a little fun on the drive home, hiding the voucher face-down on the back seat before asking Karen to help him unload something “a bit awkward”.
“When she lifted up the cheque and saw what we’d won, she dropped the F-bomb once,” he laughs. “Then she realised I was recording on the phone and dropped it again.”
The timing of the win has made it even more special. After selling their farm early last year and stepping back from full-time farming, Goosey says the prize has opened the door to something the family had been thinking about for a while. The couple still live on a smaller property that was once part of their original farm, where the new tractor now gets a run around the hobby block.
“The kids are getting older now, so we thought this might be the chance to con them into one last trip with Mum and Dad. To get something like this out of the blue — it’s a very pleasant, exciting surprise.”
