A Ramsey Bros Apprenticeship is your gateway to a career as an Agricultural Service Technician. You will be working alongside qualified Technicians, to learn the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of maintaining the complex systems in a wide range of farm machinery. Your experience will be as broad as possible through hands-on work, manufacturer training and the Apprentice Exchange Program.
Agricultural Service Technician Apprenticeship Program
Age: | 17 years (minimum) |
Education: | Complete Year 11 (minimum) SACE agriculture subject preferred Passing grades in maths and English |
Requirements: | Drivers Licence (preferred) Natural mechanical interest and aptitude Academic capacity to understand technical manuals and diagrams Ability to read and complete work reports |
Apprenticeship: | 4 years |
Training: | Structured on the job mentoring and training Manufacturer training (e.g. electrical systems, hydraulic systems, Case IH, JCB, etc) |
Study: | Periodic one-week blocks of face-to-face learning at local TAFE. (Three to four weeks per quarter.) |
Opportunities: | Career Accelerator program available from Year 3. Supported with TAFE classes toward your nationally recognised trade qualifications. |
National Qualifications: | Cert III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology |

Training and career progression
As a Ramsey Bros Apprentice Agricultural Service Technician you will work on diesel engine, hydraulic, electronic, pneumatic, fluid and mechanical systems. Qualify in air-conditioning system maintenance and repair. Prepare, Install and deliver new machines. Maintain and repair farm machinery in a workshop setting and undertake fault-finding and repair of machinery in the field.
Year 1 & 2
Right from Day One of your Apprenticeship, you will be in the workshop servicing all makes and models of our leading machinery brands, under the supervision of a Senior Technician.
- TAFE training within the first few weeks.
- Personal development. Regular progress, feedback, and next steps sessions.
- Ramsey Bros Apprentice 4 x 1 Week Exchange Program at other dealerships.
- Ramsey Bros Career Accelerator Program available to eligible Year 2 apprentices
Year 3
You will be able to work remotely and with less supervision, handle’s in-field maintenance and resolves breakdowns on your own, and be on call to service machines during critical times.
- TAFE classes continue
- Product-oriented systems and servicing courses.
- Product specialist preferences that interest you.
Year 4
You will be a highly capable technician and will be building your specialised knowledge in the machinery that interests you.
- Product specialist in your preferred product category
- Completed TAFE classes achieve nationally recognised qualification as am agricultural service technician
- Ongoing product training.

Apprentice Exchange
Ramsey Bros apprentice technicians don’t just get to work on some of the biggest and most advanced farm machinery around, they also get the benefit of a multi-branch network to broaden their experience.
The fully supervised program, which runs three times per year, sees the apprentices transferred between the service departments of Ramsey Bros at Murray Bridge, Riverton, Cleve, Wudinna and Cummins.
