Ramsey Bros is excited to announce the opening of its 2025 Apprentice Intake, welcoming applications from individuals eager to embark on a rewarding career as agricultural service technicians.
Each year, Ramsey Bros brings in a fresh group of first-year apprentices to join their team of apprentices and fully qualified technicians across five dealerships in South Australia.
With a strong commitment to fostering local talent, the Ramsey Bros apprenticeship program provides a blend of hands-on training and formal education. Apprentices work alongside experienced technicians, learning the intricacies of maintaining and repairing advanced agricultural machinery, both in a workshop setting and open-air projects on site at farms. Upon completion, participants graduate with the Certificate III in Agriculture Mechanical Technology through the Motor Trade Association.
The 2025 intake offers new opportunities for both school leavers and mid-career candidates looking to reskill or get qualified. As Hamish Thornley, Group Service Manager at Ramsey Bros, highlights, “Our latest internal survey of our apprentices showed that nearly 60% had considered pursuing an apprenticeship before reaching Year 10, which reinforces the importance of early career guidance. Interestingly, we’re also seeing a growing number of mid-career apprentices – those who’ve worked as trade assistants or completed other trades and are now transitioning to agricultural service roles.”
The survey provided further insights:
- 100% of participants said they would recommend the apprenticeship to their mates.
- Over 90% appreciated that the program leads to a recognised certificate at its completion.
- 80% loved the mateship and hands-on experience gained from day one.
In addition to traditional apprenticeship pathways, Ramsey Bros is embracing non-traditional entry points, which are yielding positive results. Hamish explains, “our dealerships have had great success with school-based apprenticeships, offering students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while completing their schooling. Meanwhile, other dealerships have welcomed mid-career apprentices who are transitioning into the field after previously working in other trades or as trade assistants. These pathways offer smooth transitions into the workforce and deliver significant benefits for both the apprentices and our dealerships.”
Ramsey Bros operates service dealerships in Cleve, Cummins, Wudinna, Riverton, and Murray Bridge, providing apprentices with opportunities to work across a variety of agricultural regions and with diverse machinery. An exciting feature of the apprenticeship program at Ramsey Bros is the Apprentice Exchange Program, which offers apprentices the opportunity to gain experience at different dealerships across the state. “The exchange program is designed to broaden our apprentices’ skill sets and expose them to different environments, mentors and machinery,” says Hamish.
Applications for the 2025 Apprentice Intake are now open, and Ramsey Bros encourages anyone with a passion for agriculture and a desire to learn to apply. Whether you’re finishing school or looking for a career change, this is an excellent opportunity to join one of South Australia’s leading agricultural machinery dealerships and start a career that’s built to last.
Applications close on 30 November 2024.
